TRANSABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND

It is necessary for you to have a very full bladder, therefore one (1) hour before your appointment drink four (4) glasses (8 ounces each) of water or any other beverage, except milk, all at once.  Do not empty your bladder after drinking the fluids.  This will insure you have a full bladder by the time of your appointment.  You will be uncomfortable, but it is necessary or the test cannot be performed.  The ultrasound scan is a painless procedure, which causes no harm to you or a fetus.  It is done using sound waves and is not an x-ray.
